NEC Electronics' Activities

Just after the establishment of the ATA Working Group (currently SATA-IO) in 2000, NEC has been both a member and a pioneer in the development of Serial ATA technology and the establishment of several specifications. With exhibitions at IDF2002 (Intel Developers Forum 2002) and CEATEC2004, as well as academic lectures at the VLSI Symposium, we have led the industry in demonstrating the achievements of our Serial ATA activities.

NEC Electronics currently provides a 150 nm process (CB12) chip that includes a PHY (physical layer) core that supports next-generation SATA-II (3 Gbps) and a Serial ATA host/device link/transport layer IP core. A 90 nm process (CB90) version is also under development, and is scheduled for release in FY2006 1Q.

We will continue to deliver the latest Serial ATA technology and provide our customers with consulting and technical support services (cooperatively with third party in part) to ease their transition to Serial ATA. Our aim is to provide flexible solutions that meet all our customers' needs.
