Interchangeable SoC

An SoC that has been optimized for the target area, and software that is not dependent of the type of SoC with which it is being used, together offer a flexible application development environment.

For those SoCs that are compatible with platformOViA, NEC Electronics will select and construct an optimum CPU/DSP architecture (including media processors) in accordance with the characteristics of the target electronic device.
If, for example, the target is a mobile phone requiring “high performance and low power consumption,” NEC Electronics, which is fully experienced in hardware design, will offer solutions to these needs by using scalable CPUs for basic processing and adding low-power media engines to the media processing sections; if the target is a DVD recorder requiring “advanced special processing,” it will offer solutions by adding high-end CPUs plus high-performance media engines.
NEC Electronics will also prepare and offer software, including device drivers, for operation with those CPUs and engines, and to provide an interface with higher-level OSs.

Moreover, platformOViA will continue to offer a lineup of optimized SoCs for use in three areas – mobile phones, digital AV appliances, and automotive information systems. When customers are changing their hardware to satisfy demands for products that are becoming increasingly multifunctional, platformOViA will eliminate the need to deal with previously developed applications, contributing to the flexibility of applications.

Interchangeable SoC

Satisfying diverse consumer needs requires the implementation of more advanced applications while making efficient use of existing assets from low-end to high-end models.
The platformOViA solutions offer SoC scalability to allow customers to develop expandable, flexible systems that will “survive” for generations to come.
