PFESiP

PFESiP

The PFESiP (Platform ESiP) is a new type of ASIC proposed by NEC Electronics.
Various advantages are achieved by using SiP technology to combine a general-purpose function chip and a gate array.

Features of this new product, the PFESiP, include:

  • Realizing low-price system LSI chips
  • Enabling short term development as with gate arrays
  • Providing a well-developed development environment
  • Reducing costs through an SiP-dedicated design

The PFESiP is particularly recommended for customers using microcontrollers, gate arrays, cell-based ICs, or FPGAs.

PFESiP concept

The PFESiP (Platform for Embedded System in a Package, Platform ESiP) is a new ASIC solution providing gate arrays quickly, cheaply, and safely with expanded functionality, by developing gate arrays and general-purpose function chip into SiPs, which are pre-verified and lined up as masters. Various system LSI chips will be supported by the creation of a wide range of general-purpose function chip types.

As the first step, the EP-1 Series, which develops a CPU and a gate array into an SiP for industrial office automation areas has been released.

The EP-1 Series PFESiP (V850E2 core, 200 MHz operation) is currently available.
Further CPU expansion will be under review. Combinations with devices other than CPUs will also be under review, as required.
