SANTA CLARA, Calif. and KAWASAKI, Japan, March 25, 2005 -
NEC Electronics America, Inc. today announced the appointment of Yuichi Kawakami as the new president and chief executive officer (CEO) effective April 1. In this role, Mr. Kawakami will oversee day-to-day operations and will be responsible for setting and delivering on the company's strategies and goals. He has held a variety of executive management positions in his more than 30 years at NEC Corporation and NEC Electronics Corporation, most recently serving as vice president of NEC Electronics Corporation's sales and marketing operations unit.
Mr. Kawakami succeeds Toshio Nakajima, president and CEO, who will return to NEC Electronics Corporation in Japan to serve as a corporate officer overseeing system LSI business development effective April 1 and will continue to serve as a member of the board for NEC Electronics Corporation. Also effective April 1, Mr. Nakajima will become chairman of the board of directors for NEC Electronics America.
As NEC Electronics America will continue to play a significant role in NEC Electronics Corporation's worldwide business strategy, the company believes that Mr. Kawakami's extensive experience and breadth of knowledge of the regional and global semiconductor markets makes him well-qualified to assume this leadership position.
