NEC Electronics Acquires Licenses for LCD Driver Patents from Honeywell
-Honeywell Patents Cover Technologies That Reduce Flicker, Drive the Grey Scale in Liquid Crystal Displays-


KAWASAKI, Japan, Apr. 8, 2003 -
NEC Electronics Corporation announced today that NEC Electronics and Honeywell have reached agreement for NEC Electronics to use two Honeywell patents relating to liquid crystal displays (LCDs) drivers found in a wide variety of electronic consumer and business technology products.

Under the agreement, NEC Electronics is granted non-exclusive, worldwide rights to use the Honeywell's patents, U.S. Patents Nos., 5,061,920 and 5,041,823 and their counterparts throughout the world.

One of the patented technologies reduces screen flicker and the other drives the grey scale of the pixels, or dots, that form the images displayed on the screen.

"Through selecting our LCD drivers, our customers will also be able to bring technical advantages given by the patents into their end products such as LCD panels for flat panel displays, notebook PCs, mobile phones, PDAs, and measurement equipments," stated Kazumichi Aoki, general manager of 5th System LSI Division, 2nd Business Development Operations Unit, NEC Electronics Corporation.
