NEC Electronics' New Software Development Platform "SolutionGear®-MINI" to Drastically Cut the Development Cost for 32-bit Embedded Microcontroller

NEC Electronics Corporation announced today that it has completed the development of a new software development platform SolutionGear®-MINI for its 32-bit RISC microcontroller and will begin its shipment*1 at the end of March 2003. The target microcontroller is V850E/ME2, which NEC Electronics began sample shipments last October.
V850E/ME2 shows the highest performance in NEC Electronics' 32-bit embedded microcontroller V850 Series, with high speed and real time processing capability made available by high-speed, large-capacity built-in instruction RAM.
One of the key features of SolutionGear®-MINI is that users can start development of software, as well as evaluation of both software and hardware, right after they purchase this platform. All the necessary tools for basic development are included in the kit; not only NEC Electronics proprietary C-compiler and debugger, but also RTOS(µITRON*2) and middlewares (TCP/IP, WEB server, PPP, DNS, FTP server, etc.), for which SolutionGear®-MINI users have special licenses. The cost saving of users is as much as 75 percent, compared with getting each of them independently.
In addition, SolutionGear®-MINI users can start develolpment of internet and other applications prior to completion of their target board design, as the evaluation board has Ethernet, USB and Flash Card interfaces with V850E/ME2.
This new platform is one of the "SolutionGear®I" product family, which is the platform for both V850 series and VR series that NEC Electronics has been offering as its microcontroller products. Users have a choice to expand the function by combining SolutionGear®-MINI with SolutionGear®-I motherboard.
"Along with the effort to enrich the microcontroller product lineup from low -end to high-end", commented Yoichi Yano, general manager of 4th System LSI Division, NEC Electronics, "we would like to continue providing cost-effective and efficient software development environment for all of those microcontrollers".
The sample price of SolutionGear®-MINI is 250,000 yen and NEC Electronics plans to ship 200 sets this year.
