NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices Announces Start of Service to Substantially Increase Efficiency of Application Circuit Design Through Provision of Microwave Device Parameters on the Web

-Most extensive service of its kind in Japan:Providing 1,300 parameters for 180 product types-

TOKYO, October 9, 2002

NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices, Ltd. (President: Akira Mineo, Head office: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture) today announced the creation of a free service to provide microwave device parameters to users in S2P-file format, enabling direct input to simulators used for application circuit design. This service will be available on the NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices, Ltd.'s web page from October 10, 2002 and will enable the company to offer enhanced technical support to users.

The new service will provide 1,300 S-parameters (device characteristics provided as numerical coordinates) for 180 types of microwave devices supplied by NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices, Ltd., and will be the largest-scale service of its kind in Japan.

This new service allows S-parameters that were conventionally input by circuit designers using the keyboard to be directly input to the circuit simulator. This substantially reduces the time required for input and the possibility of input errors, enabling efficient design of circuits using microwave devices.

S-parameters are input to simulators used for application circuit design using high-frequency devices, and are conventionally distributed to the user in data sheet form.
Application circuit designers then have to input these large numerical arrays via the keyboard while reading them from the data sheet, which is not only time consuming work, but also carries a high potential for input errors, thus requiring careful checking after input.
the Internet has led to a demand for the provision of parameters in an electronic file format that enables direct input to simulators.

In June this year, SPICE parameters (device characteristics expressed as electric circuits) for 47 types of silicon bipolar transistors became available on the NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices Ltd.'s web page in the BJT-file format broadly used in the industry. Now, with the addition of S-parameters in October, users will be able to acquire the device parameters required for circuit design simulation immediately, allowing easy and efficient input to a simulator.

A design kit that compiles the SPICE parameters of all NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices Ltd.'s high-frequency devices as a library, allowing blanket input, is also available for free from the company's web page.

NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices, Ltd. continues to offer a range of new products to meet users' needs, and is actively strengthening its Web-based technical support system to provide more accessible support to more designers, with the ultimate aim of facilitating design of complex high-frequency and analog circuits.
