NEC Electronics provides API for melody LSIs.
The API is independent of a target system structure, and it includes such highly abstracted commands as LOAD, PLAY, STOP, etc. You can make sound and audio applications with minimum effort using this API.
Software Structure

The user application implements sound and audio playback applications using this API. - Sound Generator API
The sound generator API is used to control sound generator by user application. - MP3/AAC decoder API
The MP3/AAC decoder API is used to control audio playback functions by user application. - Device Layer Functions
The device layer functions control hardware of the system. These functions include interrupt processing, system timer setting and register accessing.
