Camera function is firmly established as an essential feature of nearly all mobile phones with data transmission functions. The demands for camera functions and performance increase every year, and have become highly complex, incorporating not only high pixel count and high resolution, but also multifunctionality, including image stabilization and noise reduction for photos taken in the dark. On top of this, customers want their phone cameras to be more compact than specialized camera devices.
To meet these demands, NEC Electronics has developed the LSI camera engine "CE131", designed specifically for mobile phone cameras. By connecting to a conventional application processor, high-performance camera functions can be incorporated. Currently,CE131 is capable of supporting 8 megapixels, but it is planned to produce models capable of supporting over 12 megapixels in the future, and even greater performance will be forthcoming.
Although recent application processors have shown increasing multifunctionality and camera functions have become standard, please consider NEC Electronics' camera engine when comparing its handsets with those of other companies.
The CE131 provides superior image stabilization functionality using 6-axis still and 4-axis moving image stabilization, with multi-frame overlap and image correction.
By increasing the sensitivity and shutter speed of the camera, CE131 is able to reduce object blurring and reduce the graininess of images taken under poor lighting conditions.
CE131 provides a more natural white balance correction.
CE131 effectively corrects the peripheral distortion that occurs when photographing through an ultra small lens.
