NEC Electronics (in a joint exhibit with NEC Microsystems) received the ET Excellence Award at Embedded Technology 2004 (organizer: Japan System House Association), an exhibition held at Pacifico Yokohama in Japan from November 17-19, 2004.

Embedded Technology 2004 is Asia's largest embedded system technology exhibition. This year marked the eighteenth year of this annual event that was formerly known as the Microcomputer Systems and Tools Fair (MST). The ET Awards are a new addition to the event and this was only the second time they have been awarded. These awards provide visitors an opportunity to give candid feedback to exhibitors. Based on questionnaires filled out by visitors on the first day of the exhibition, awards are given to companies whose exhibits were particularly outstanding or left a lasting impression. Winners of the Highest Excellence Award, Excellence Award, Organizing Committee's Special Award and JASA Special Award are selected according to their total scores in three evaluation categories: 1) product, 2) presentation, and 3) exhibition booth (Photo 1).

NEC Electronics exhibited its new "all flash" 8-bit microcontroller, which was unveiled for the first time on November 4 of this year at Embedded Technology 2004. This microcontroller has been favorably received by customers because it is equipped with peripheral IC functions, is extremely appealing in terms of cost and decreases the cost of development thanks to free downloadable software and simplified programming. This exhibit received a great deal of attention because it provided visitors an opportunity to actually experience simple demonstrations of development, debugging and writing. Also exhibited were NEC Electronics' dynamically reconfigurable processor (DRP), T-Engine and other solutions that respond to the needs of the automotive, mobile and digital AV sectors. Moreover, color coding of each corner made the booth user-friendly and visitors were therefore able to easily determine where products were displayed (Photos 2 and 3).

The organizer commented during the awards ceremony that NEC Electronics received this award because the color coding of the solutions exhibited made the booth user-friendly and appealing, and visitors evaluated the booth highly for corresponding with the aims of the exhibition.

NEC Electronics has thus far participated in numerous exhibitions and used samples and demonstrations to introduce our latest products. We have also endeavored to create visitor-friendly exhibition booths and organize our exhibitions in such a way as to make them easy to understand. We will utilize the experience of winning this award to further our efforts to meet the various needs of visitors to our exhibitions.
