NEC Electronics joined the 6th Embedded Systems Expo & Conference (ESEC) (1/2)

At the 6th Embedded Systems Expo & Conference (ESEC) held July 9-11 in Tokyo, NEC Electronics' booth staffers exhibited a variety of embedded solutions, including the Instant Silicon Solution Platform™ (ISSP™) that enables high-performance ASIC design in a short period of time and the company's 64-bit VR Series™ RISC microprocessor line-up, among others.

Main Exhibits and Highlights

<<Embedded Solutions>>
To support our customers and meet their needs through each phase of the product development process, we form design teams that bring together a wide range of NEC Group technologies and know-how related to device development, design, structure and device utilization. At ESEC, we primarily introduced visual communications, network and security solutions.

Using hardware to run the entire image-processing zone, we have successfully developed a megapixel-compatible SiP camera module that realizes high-speed, energy-efficient image processing.

Elemental technology for the realization of a ubiquitous society

Positional Information Service Solutions

In one demonstration, we simulated a global positioning service (GPS) as it tracked data and acquired positional information that can make it possible to locate friends or items of importance in real time.

VoIP Solutions

We also presented NEC Electronics' activities related to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). While full-fledged IP phone services have been launched and progress has been made throughout the world in the transition to IP phone networks, many companies are still having trouble developing IP phone terminals. With both the experience gained in SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) server development for telecommunications carriers and the delivery results of the NEC Group, NEC Electronics offers one-stop VoIP development solutions from the initial development stage to connection verification with the SIP server of the telecommunications carrier.

Home Network Solutions

Another demonstration showcased a telecommunications module equipped with one type of telecommunications protocol:TCP/IP. As we enter into this age of convenient home networks, the engineers at NEC Electronics are working hard to propose solutions for incorporating remote monitoring and control functions at a low cost and in a short period of time via the Internet.

Security Solution Corner

Demonstration of Fingerprint Authentication and Codes

Amid the growing need for information security, our designers have successfully implemented fingerprint authentication and network security technology in an embedded CPU. What's more, we offer modules, operating systems, middleware, and other products equipped with this technology to meet customers' individual needs. In addition, we also conduct consultations regarding risk management issues such as what the real threats to security are and how to avoid them.

Middleware for Image Display Applications

We also demonstrated an application that allows users to enlarge a specific part of an image while at the same time looking at the entire image. By Pliable Display Technology (PDT), which was developed by Canada's IDELIX Software Inc., the enlarged portion of the image appears to almost leap off the screen. This next-generation expansion technology is certainly a far cry from the conventional magnifying glass.
