Idea 7: Improve product performance
In addition to using gate arrays to reduce cost, many NEC Electronics customers have converted FPGAs into gate arrays to boost system performance. Generally, our gate arrays run three to four times faster than corresponding FPGAs. Prototyping with FPGAs makes sense, but you get higher performance at lower cost by using gate arrays.
