LEDs are used for indoor and outdoor sign boards and displays, and their applications are rapidly expanding thanks to their small size, lower power consumption, and long life.
NEC Electronics provides driver ICs for driving LEDs used for purposes such as illumination and store display.
LEDs, which are capable of rendering light in a wide variety of ways thanks to the development of blue and white LEDs, are used for applications such as Christmas illumination, mobile phones, and the backlights of LCD televisions. The applications of LEDs are rapidly expanding due to their use in place of fluorescent tubes.

Various voltages and currents are used for LEDs according to their applications. LED applications can be classified according to their voltages and currents, such as mobile phones operating at 10 V and 50 mA or less, and lighting equipment operating at 100 V and 1 A or more. Suitable LED driver ICs are required to drive such devices and equipment.

LED driver ICs can be classified into those operating via series control and those operating via switching control.

The µPD168804, intended for illumination purposes and store display, is currently under development. In the future, we will strive to develop elemental technology and provide driver IC products with functions, voltages, and currents ideal for any application.
