Embedded Technology 2007

Embedded Technology 2007

The exhibition was ended as of 2007/11/16. Thank you all for visiting NEC Electronics booth!

NEC Electronics booth at ET2007

Welcome to the one of the world's biggest exhibitions on embedded system technology! At Embedded Technology 2007 (ET2007), not only you will find an array of easy-to-understand solutions for embedded system, but also you can touch and learn more about them through our demo corners for microcontrollers, Digital Consumer, Automotive, and seminar presentations.

Microcontrollers and Development Environment

32-bit All Flash Microcontrollers: Boasting an ultimate low power consumption of 0.9mW / MIPS!

32-bit All Flash microcontroller powered by solar energy
32-bit All Flash microcontroller powered by solar energy

NEC Electronics' 32-bit All Flash microcontrollers consumes power at 16-bit level and delivers an astonishing 0.9mW / MIPS energy performance. At 3V, 32MHz performance could be achieved at 1MB (ROM size)!

At the demo booth, heavy processing, such as voice synthesis, could be handled with power generated by solar-energy only!

16-bit All Flash Microcontrollers: Top-of-the-class power saver!

NEC Electronics' 16-bit All Flash microcontrollers 78K0R, delivers high performance, class-leading power consumption and a wide range of lineup to do the right job with the right size. With built-in peripheral devices, such as oscillator and reset IC, designers will not only find the performance they need, but also the cost they love.

At the demo booth, electricity generated by hand-crank device could be used to replay audio clip and to gauge and display the electric voltage instantly.

On the right-hand side, a voltage gauge moves up as the power is being charged by the hand-crank device. When the gauge reaches 4.2V, a sound will be played and the voltage will decrease gradually due to the processing of voltage sensor. By pressing the "DISCHARGE" button on the left, LED will light up and capacitor will start to discharge. Comparing to the power consumed by LED, the power consumed by voltage sensing microcontroller is nothing but insignificant!

32-bit Microcontrollers: Graphics with V850 Microcontrollers

Touch panel UI through JavaVM
Touch panel UI through JavaVM

Develop control interfaces, such as touch panel and GUI, easily and smoothly with NEC Electronics' 32-bit V850 microcontrollers!

At the demo booth, a simple touch panel GUI is realized with a 20MHz low-clock microcontroller and a dozen lines of codes written in Java VM on PC. Programmers can create the GUI displayed in demo booth by using the drawing library available free-of-charge from NEC Electronics.

Automotive Solutions

Automotive Network (CAN / LIN, FlexRay)

At this booth, a demo car is displayed where visitors can steer, accelerate, and brake just like a real car. Meanwhile, the operations performed by visitors are reflected real-time in 3D screen above. The demo car's controls are all synched with in-Vehicle LAN consisting of CAN / LIN (for body, engine, and audio) and FlexRay as a network backbone.

Visitors can experience and learn about NEC Electronics' automotive solutions in a fun, game-like, fashion. But withdrawing your hands from that steering wheel will prove to be a little difficult.

Automotive Navigation: SoC "NaviEngine"

NaviEngine: Four concurrent displays demo
NaviEngine: Four concurrent displays demo

The one-chip, high-spec system LSI, NaviEngine, is equipped with four ARM11 core processors for parallel processing and uses PowerVR architecture (used in one of the popular game systems) for 3D graphics processing.

At the demo booth, music replay, motion pictures, Windows CE desktop and 3D pictures are processed and displayed on a screen concurrently! "One navi four fun" - This would prove to be a great addition to anybody's automotive navigation / entertainment system!

The Key Technology in Pre-crash Safety System: "IMAPCAR"

The same pre-crash safety technology used in Toyota's Lexus is demonstrated in here by two auto-piloted RC cars. The IMAPCAR-equipped RC cars are moving along the tracks and will come to a complete stop if an obstacle is placed in its path of movement!

Digital Consumer Solution

Digital TV Solution: platformOViA

Multi-functional digital TV demo

At the demo booth, visitors can easily access TV program information, media/DVD player, and web browser all by one remote controller. This digital TV solution uses EMMA2RH in place of EMMA3, to play HD-quality MPEG2 movie.

Easy-to-implement Gate Array Solution

The new ASIC Solution: PESiP

New ASIC solution: PFESiP evaluation board demo
New ASIC solution: PFESiP evaluation board demo

Finally, a custom microcontroller that allows developer to write logic into CPU easily! The PFESiP (Platform for Embedded System in a Package) is a new ASIC solution providing gate arrays quickly, cheaply, and safely with expanded functionality, by developing gate arrays and general-purpose function chip into SiPs, which are pre-verified and lined up as masters. By creating a wide range of general-purpose function chip types, various system LSI chips can be supported.

At the demo booth, the JPEG data communication between Host and Function boards through USB is demonstrated. JPEG decoding is done on the Host side.
