Operation is achieved with the in-circuit emulator, but not with the actual device.
Q1
I tried to write a program that was confirmed with the in-circuit emulator to the on-chip flash memory and execute it.
However, it did not work.
A1
The reason why operation is achieved with the in-circuit emulator but not with the actual device is often a problem of clock oscillation and insufficient reset time at power-on.

Check whether any problems exist in the clock oscillation and that the reset time is sufficient for the power supply to reach the operation voltage range at power-on.

If no problem is detected with the above check, this may be a case in which a variable not initialized (contents of RAM) is referenced and its value differs between the in-circuit emulator and the device.
The in-circuit emulator, operates using its own internal power supply, instead of the power supply from the system.
So, also check to see if any problems (particularly noise problems) exist in the system power supply.

When there is an interrupt request on the in-circuit emulator, the STOP mode is not released. [V850/SA1]
Q1
During operation with the in-circuit emulator, if operation enters the STOP mode when there is an interrupt request, the STOP mode cannot be released.
A1
This is one of the in-circuit emulator restrictions, which corresponds to item 16 in "IE-703017-MC-EM1, In-Circuit Emulator for V850/SA1, Bug Information".
To use STOP mode, be sure to cancel the interrupt source in advance.
IE-703017-MC-EM1 Bug Information SBG-T-2360-E

(16) Restriction on interrupts in STOP/IDLE mode
[Description]
The emulator is dead-locked under the following conditions.
If the device is shifted to the STOP/IDLE mode while the interrupt request flag is set by an interrupt that is not masked.

[Workaround]
Be sure to clear the non-masked interrupt request flag before shifting to the STOP/IDLE mode.
If the device is inadvertently shifted before clearing the flag, execute "Run" --> "Stop" or click the "Stop" button on the debugger.
The program is forcibly terminated.
Then, execute "Run" --> "CPU Reset" or click the "Res" button.

Difference between "-B" and "-C" for the IE interface board
Q1
What is the difference between the following two interface boards?
IBM PC/AT-compatible ISA BUS Interface Board
- IE-70000-PC-IF-B
- IE-70000-PC-IF-C
A1
"-C" indicates that the interface board supports the NS type.
If you use other than the NS type, both interface boards can be used in the same way.

Use of the IE-703102-MC-EM1-A board
Q1
What is the peripheral I/O board IE-703102-MC-EM1-A used for?
A1
The IE-703102-MC-EM1-A board is used in combination with the IE-703102-MC to emulate the functions of peripheral I/O in products such as the uPD703102A.
That is, by combining IE-703102-MC (which emulates the CPU core part) and this board IE-703102-MC-EM1-A, total device emulation is enabled.

Message "There is no response from the evaluation chip." from the IE-V850.
Q1
When I set up the hardware and software and started the debugger, the following message was output.
"01a0(F): There is no response from the evaluation chip. Check that there is no abnormality in signals such as RESET, WAIT and HLDRQ, and the clock signal."
A1
This indicates that although the in-circuit emulator is trying to interact with the evaluation chip, this interaction is unsuccessful because the evaluation chip is not in a normal-operation state.

The reason why the evaluation chip does not operate normally may possibly be that the clock is not being correctly supplied to the evaluation chip (the clock setting is incorrect), or the CPU is not able to operate because it is in a reset, wait, or hold state.

Check whether the signals and settings (especially clock-related settings) of these pins are correct.

Availability of on-chip debugging function (DCU) [V850E/MA1]
Q1
Can the on-chip debugging function (DCU) be used in the V850E/MA1 (uPD70F3107)?
And can I perform development work with an N-Wire in-circuit emulator?
A1
As of May 2001, there is no V850E series standard device equipped
with an integrated on-chip debugging function (DCU) that supports N-Wire.
Currently, the standard device providing this function is only the VR5432 (for JTAG, this function is also provided in the VR412X).
Use a normal emulator for development.

External memory debugging [V850/SA1]
Q1
On p.78 in the V850/SA1 Hardware Manual document number U12768EJ4V0UM00 (4th Edition), there is a description saying,
"An in-circuit emulator cannot be used to debug the memory address output mode register (MAM)."

When connecting an external memory, can I use an in-circuit emulator to debug it?
A1
Yes, you can.
This description only means that emulation of the MAM register is disabled.
The operation itself specified by MAM can be emulated.
The item to be set by the MAM register on the device must be set by a jumper (J1) in the IE-703017-MC-EM1.

For details, refer to 2.5 "Separate Bus Function Setting " (Table 2-5) on p.24 of the IE-703017-EM1 User's Manual.

Tools required to migrate from the V851 to the V850E/MS1
Q1
What tools should be newly purchased when migrating from the V851 to the V850E/MS1 ?
A1
In V850E/MS1 development, because the emulator main unit is a separate unit, hardware components other than the power supply and the interface must be newly prepared.
Software tools are used intact.
However, a device file must be added.
Actually, the following items must be added:
IE main unit IE-703102-MC
Peripheral I/O boardIE703102-MC-EM1 (for 5V)
IE703102-MC-EM1-A (for 3.3V)
Conversion adapter/socket NQPACK144SD, YQPACK144SD, etc.
Device file DF703102
The device file can be downloaded from the NEC Electronics Microprocessor web page "Development Tools Download".

Socket required for V850/SV1 (BGA) development.
Q1
When connecting the target board for the BGA of the V850/SV1, is "EXC-180A/SV1" required between the target board and the option board (emulator)?
Also, is the socket for stacking (CSSOCKET180A1513N01S01) required?
A1
The sockets required for V850/SV1 (BGA) development are as follows:
EXC-180A/SV1 Emulator connecting pin conversion probe (mandatory)
CSSOCKET180A1513N01S01 Sockets for stacking (for height adjustment; use as required.)
Either CSSOCKET180A1513N01
or
CSSOCKET180A1513N01N
is required.
Type with target connection socket guide (A guide hole is required on the board.)

Type without target connection socket guide (No guide hole is required on the board.)
