An error message is displayed during the startup of the ID850NWC, and the ID850NWC cannot be started.
Q1
An error message is displayed during the startup of the ID850NWC, and the ID850NWC cannot be started.
A1
The following messages may be displayed.

- "F0100: Can not communicate with ICE. Please confirm the installation of the device driver for the PC interface board."
- "F03a0: Target is not turn on."
- "F0c70: DCU cannot be accessed."
- "Ff603: Incorrect ID Code."

Check the following.

If "F0100: Can not communicate with ICE. Please confirm the installation of the device driver for the PC interface board." is displayed

[Check]
Check if the device driver for the IE-V850E1-CD-NW has been correctly installed and recognized by the host machine.

[Action]
If the device driver is not correctly installed, it must be re-installed.
Refer to the IE-V850E1-CD-NW User's Manual for the installation procedure.

If "F03a0: Target is not turn on." is displayed

[Check]
Check if the interface signals of the IE-V850E1-CD-NW are correctly connected.

In particular, check the following:

  • Are the pin numbers correct?
  • Is VDD connected in accordance with the specification of the device?
  • Are the flash mode pins (such as FLMD0) connected in accordance with the specification?

[Action]

  • For pin layout, check the wiring by referring to the IE-V850E1-CD-NW User's Manual.
  • Connection of VDD differs depending on the device because the type of buffer power supply (driving power supply) of the N-Wire pins, such as EVDD and BVDD, differ. Check the wiring by referring to the User's Manual of the device used.
  • Be sure to wire the flash mode pin(s) (such as FLMD0) of the device used, if any.

If "F0c70: DCU cannot be accessed." is displayed

[Check]
Check if the interface signals of the IE-V850E1-CD-NW are correctly connected.

In particular, check the following:

  • Are the pin numbers correct?
  • Is the clock supplied in accordance with the specification of the device?
  • Are the flash mode pins (such as FLMD0) connected in accordance with the specification?

[Action]

  • For pin layout, check the wiring by referring to the IE-V850E1-CD-NW User's Manual.
  • Check setting of the frequency (set in the Configuration dialog box) by referring to the ID850NWC User's Manual.
  • Be sure to wire the flash mode pin(s) (such as FLMD0) of the device used, if any.

If "Ff603: Incorrect ID Code." is displayed

[Check]
Check the following items.

  • Is the ID code correct?
  • Are the flash mode pin(s) (such as FLMD0) connected in accordance with the specification?

[Action]

  • The ID code is a code for security, for which any value can be set.
For the specification, refer to the User's Manual of the device or the IE-V850E1-CD-NW User's Manual.
In particular, check if bit 7 of address 0x79 is 1 (N-Wire emulation specification).

    [Caution]
Note that, if you forget the ID code, the flash memory must be erased (initialized) using the flash memory programmer.

  • Be sure to wire the flash mode pin(s) (such as FLMD0) of the device, if any.

[Reference]
The following items can be tested by the N-Wire Checker.
Check if the interface is correct.

  • Authentication test of ID code
  • Checking frequency of DCK
  • Checking waveform of DDI (check the DDI pin using a measuring instrument.)
  • Checking access to registers of on-chip debug unit
  • Checking access to registers of CPU
N-Wire Checker is installed when the ID850NWC is installed.
Start up the N-Wire Checker as follows:

Select [All Programs] -> [NEC Tools32] -> [N-Wire Checker] from the [Start] menu

For how to use (test method), refer to the ID850NWC User's Manual.

Q1
Can N-Wire Card (IE-V850E1-CD-NW) be used with a desk-top PC?
A1
N-Wire CARD (IE-V850E1-CD-NW) can be used with a desk-top PC by using a general-purpose PC card adapter of PCI.
Note, however, that some general-purpose PC card adapters of PCI do not operate.
The operation of the following card adapters has been confirmed.

What should be noted on the sequence of power application?
Q1
What should be noted on the sequence of power application?
A1
Observe the following sequence.
If not, the in-circuit emulator (IE) or target system may be broken.

Power-on sequence: IE -> Target system -> Debugger
Power-off sequence: Debugger -> Target system -> IE
The debugger malfunctions if signals are not input from the IE.
The debugger must be started or terminated while the IE is turned on.

If two or more systems are connected and each system is supplied power from an independent power supply, and if one of the power supplies is turned on and a current flows through one of the systems, the semiconductor elements may be damaged.

If a current flows from the target system while the IE is turned off, therefore, the IE may be broken.
The IE is designed not to allow a current to flow into the target system.
Therefore, power to the target system must be turned on or off while the IE is turned on.
