In OHCI products such as the uPD72873, why is the EEPROM attached externally?

In our OHCI family, the setting values shown below required by the product are configured from the EEPROM in the PC initialization sequence, and therefore do not need to be set by the host.

• PCI configuration values
• IEEE1394 standard GUID
• Operating mode setting values for NEC Electronics product

These values can be set from the BIOS at startup without connecting EEPROM, but in this case, the customer must develop a BIOS control program.
