Eco-Factories Activities
Continual improvement of environmental management systems and eco-conscious factories
An essential factor to the manufacture of green products is the establishment of factories with low environmental impact. Toward this end we are promoting Eco-factory(note1) by introducing environmental management systems (EMS) and other systems to reduce the environmental impact caused by chemicals, as well as environmental safety and health systems, which coordinate safety and health concerns.
The manufacture of semiconductors is characterized by a broad variety of advanced chemical substances. To keep track of these substances, and ascertain their impact on the environment, we use an input-output(note2) evaluation system. The following chart indicates the inputs and outputs in connection with our semiconductor manufacturing operations in fiscal year 2007.
The following sections introduce the activities performed within our eco-factories.

- Eco-factories refer to factories that perform environmentally conscious production.
- Input refers to items that enter the factory such as electricity and chemicals, while output refers to items that exit the factory such as wastes, water, etc.
